Welcome to the Thunder Bay & District Humane Society

The Thunder Bay & District Humane Society is facing an ongoing financial shortfall and asks for your help to continue our life saving animal welfare work in Thunder Bay & District. Our PADS FOR PAWS APPEAL asks donors to designate a Pre-Authorized Debit (PAD) through their financial institution. By doing so you allow us to have a predictable monthly cash flow that will enable us to continue to ensure that every animal in need has a chance for a better future.

The Board of Directors of the Thunder Bay & District Humane Society would like to provide an update to our current financialsituation and our plans for closure on December 31, 2011.

Since our initial announcement on Friday, November 4, 2011 we have been overwhelmed by the outpouring of support from the community. People throughout the city and district have responded with donations, offers to do fundraisers, ideas for fundraisers and words of encouragement.

As we stated in the initial announcement the TBDHS’s anticipated shortfall for the current fiscal year is $180,000.000 or $15,000 per month on a budget of just under $400,000. Due to this continual shortfall it had become increasingly difficult to meet our monthly financial obligations and we were in danger of not being able to meet our payroll. This has been a growing year over year problem that had finally met the breaking point resulting in the announcement of our impending closure.

Continues in press release below.

The Thunder Bay & District Humane Society is a non-profit organization, dedicated to providing care and shelter to animals in need and investigating and enforcing animal cruelty laws. We are a low-kill shelter offering food, vet care and shelter to animals who have been neglected, abandoned, abused, or whose owners simply can't care for them anymore.

As an affliate of the OSPCA we are empowered to enforce animal cruelty laws in the District of Thunder Bay. We are a financially independent non-profit organization, funded entirely by our own fundraising efforts, donations from the community and adoption/bring-in fees. We receive no funding from the provincial OSPCA or any government sources for our regular operation or law enforcement.
