Happy Endings - Adoption Success Stories

It is unfortunate that often only the tragedies of life are shown - the abandoned, lost or sick animals. Therefore, it is our pleasure to showcase some of the Happy Endings - the Humane Society's success stories. We pay tribute to our volunteers, workers, and wonderful supporters who find places in their homes and in their hearts for the Humane Society Shelter animals. Although life is a constant struggle at the Humane Society just trying to keep afloat financially so we can help animals in need, the Society's hardworking volunteers and staff with your help bring much happiness not only to the lives of animals in need, but also to many people in our community who experience the joy of sharing life with one or more of their new pet friends.

Have you adopted a pet from the Thunder Bay & District Humane Society? Share your happy ending here, by emailing your story and photos to tbayhumane@gmail.com (please limit photos to no more than 5 photos of 1mb or less each.)

Smokie is now forever home!

2:46 PM, Sat Feb 06, 2010

Adopting Smokie sure is a Happy Ending for all of us here.  We just love her to death; have a few little things we all need to work on, but nothing serious and our cat, Sassy is still alive and well, so that is a good thing.  Smokie is still very close to me, which I love but she is bonding very well with her new Father as he spends the whole day with her.  We have registered her with K-9 for training starting in March.  She obviously has already had a fair bit of training, cause she really does listen pretty good.  She is really such a pretty dog, beautiful face.
Thank you guys so much for what each and everyone of you do there for the animals in Thunder Bay. I think my decision to volunteer there is the greatest thing I have ever done.  Madison (my granddaughter) and I always leave there with a smile on our face - we get so much in return.  I brag to everyone I come in contact with what an amazing place it is, the animals are so well looked after and are given so much love, that is why the people who adopt the animals are so pleased with the outcome.  I can hardly wait till I am retired at the end of this year and I will help out there as much as I can and do whatever you need me to do to help.

All the way home!

Just thought you would like an update on Hershey.  We adopted Hershey in July 2009.  He has become a member of our family.  Everyone just loves him.  He is definitely not a barker.  During the summer months, he enjoyed spending the weekends out at camp going for boat rides, walks and playing with our two children.  He doesn't like loud sounds.  He is very well behaved and listens very well.  He sure does like to sleep though.  He's got his own bed on the floor in our bedroom.  We've never had such a wonderful pet.  At night around 9pm, he'll go to the bedroom to his bed and come out every few minutes and look at us as if to say "Come on guys!  It's time to go to sleep!"  He sure likes to sleep.  He snores quite loudly at night but we love him just the same.  He is very laid back.  At times, we suspect that he thinks he's a cat.  When one of us goes to sit on the couch, Hershey will climb up on the couch and cuddle right up.  In December, Hershey made a friend.  A cute little white cat began hanging around Hershey outside and did not leave our patio for weeks on end waiting to play with Hershey.  We eventually let the cat in since it did not have a home.  They have been friends ever since and can often be found sleeping together by the patio doors looking outside.

Hershey is a very smart dog.  He is able to unhook his chain from his collar within minutes of being put outside.  We have found a solution to this problem by putting a body harness on him.  When walking Hershey, he does pull very hard when using just his collar and a leash.  The body harness works very well for him.  Hershey is also afraid of the dark and will often be very reluctant to go outside at night to do his business.  He will go but only long enough to do his duties and come back inside.

Thank you so much for allowing us to bring Hershey into our home.

Pepper

I just wanted to send a quick note to tell you how much we ADORE our beautiful dog Pepper! We adopted him last Oct, and he fit right in to our family! Sadly, we lost our older doggy to cancer about a month after we got Pepper, which was really hard on our family. But with Pepper around, I believe he made the transition a little easier. He's my son's best friend! We've had him in training classes and he is SO smart and so obedient. We delighted to have him in our life.

He's become such an amazing runner, sometimes running up to 50KM in a day when he runs with both my husband and I....with no problem! He comes home after all that running and wants to play fetch with my son! :) We really do adore him. He's an amazing dog to have in the car, loves car rides, loves running....he loves everything we love to do, He's perfect for us!

Thank you so much for letting us adopt him! :)

Juliet and Buster

4:29 PM, Sun Dec 27, 2009

Juliet and Buster are now called Cinder and Chance. Cinder is from Timbers litter and Chance was formerly Buster. Cinder is very intelligent, playful, social, loving and thinks everbody is her best friend. While she wasn't very affectionate when she first came home, she is now the biggest snuggle-bug you would ever meet. She can't function in the morning until she gets her cuddle. She trained very well and heels, sits, stays, lays-down, begs, shakes a paw, bows, rolls-over, crawls etc. Her range of expressions is endless and she keeps us laughing.
When Chance first arrived home we expected to be in for a few long months of training, but he morphed into the perfect dog over the course of a couple of days. He is quiet and loving and just tries so very hard to please us.
Jason and I find ourselves saying "I can't believe how GOOD he is.
They have done so much to ease the passing of our beloved Retriever Cross, Dylanne, who we lost in June 2009 at age 12. Cinder and Chance have definitely helped us heal and bring a lot of love back into our house.     Crystal & Jason.

Her name is Ginger.

Ginger was adopted March of 2008. She was under weight and a little stressed out when we got her. I have worked very hard towards rehabilitating her and she has come a long way. I am constantly receiving compliments on what a beautiful coat she has  and how well she looks. When we first got her, she did not know what to make of the water, now she swims non-stop, fetches balls and swims after ducks and boats. Which ever catches her attention. She is a healthy, happy dog who is loved a lot . She is very special in our hearts and I do not know what I would do without such a dog, so full of character.

Thank you, Lauren, for the update and lovely picture.
